CHORAL MUSIC AT ST. JAMES'S

St. James's offers a vibrant multi-generational choral music program in the Anglican Tradition. Music has been an important here since the parish's founding over a century ago. The repertoire is drawn from all musical periods with music from England and America forming the core.

BOYS & GIRLS CHOIR

The Boys & Girls Choir makes up the treble section of the full choir. They rehearse twice weekly, sing every Sunday at the 9.30 Eucharist, as well as a trebles-only service of Choral Evensong on various Wednesdays at 6pm. They also sing special concerts and participate in choral festivals with other choristers in similar programs throughout the tri-state area.  The Evensong dates for 2008 for the Boys & Girls are Wednesdays, April 23 and May 21.

All choristers receive a comprehensive musical education that includes, vocal training, sight-singing, music theory, and knowledge of choral repertoire. The basic training program that is used, Voice for Life, developed by the Royal School of Church Music allows each chorister to learn at her/his own pace.

The Boys & Girls Choir has several new special program events. "Choir Fun Day," consists of morning rehearsal on a day off from school, followed by a pizza party and an afternoon trip to the cinema, a museum, etc. They also perform as a part of the West Hartford Holiday Stroll, on the first Thursday of December at 7pm, singing Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols followed by a carol-sing with audience participation.

Please email the organist-choirmaster to set up an audition time if you are interested in your child be a part of this unique, fun, and energetic group. Prior musical experience or parochial affiliation is not required. We want choristers with lots of curiosity and an eagerness to learn!

PROBATIONER CHOIR

The Probationer Choir is a training ground for the Boys & Girls Choir. Probationers (second and third graders) rehearse once a week and learn how to read music, basic tone production, and other music fundamentals. Beginning on Easter Day they join the full Choir, robing, processing, and singing the hymns and service music. By the end of the season they earn their surplice and light blue medal as full singing choristers.

PARISH CHOIR

An extremely dedicated group of professional, semi-professional, and amateur adults that come together to each Wednesday evening from 7-9PM to rehearse and be together for fun and fellowship. With only two hours a week of rehearsal time they are able to prepare a vast array of music for Sunday Eucharists, Evensongs, and Concerts. No audition is required - please contact the organist-choirmaster if you love to sing good choral music and are interested in joining.  Evensong will be sung by the Boys & Girls and Parish Choirs on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 5pm.
